Books and Puzzle

In April 2023 I published my first book, London: A Guide For Curious Wanderers. It was a Sunday Times Bestseller and is a beautifully illustrated guided to all the little details, symbols and oddities that you can spot around London.

I am delighted to announce that in April 2025 my second book London: The Hidden Corners for Curious Wanderers will be published! This one focusses on London’s more secluded and secret locations: hidden pubs, atmospheric alleyways and secret gardens.

Waterstones are running a 25% discount if you pre-order the book through their website with the code HIDDENCORNERS25.

Below are a couple of photographs of pages from my first book. From bollards that are actually upended cannon and evidence of London’s lost rivers, to the stories behind some of the city’s best street names and what a ‘snob’ screen is, it is a miscellany of London and how to read the city’s streets.

As you can see, it is beautifully illustrated by the brilliant Katharine Fraser and includes four self-guided maps to help you explore the city for yourself.

It is the perfect gift/treat for Londoners or someone visiting the city who wants to get to grips with the history hiding in plain sight.
