Hello, I’m Jack! Thank you for visiting Living London History.

I grew up in Essex and London has always been a fascinating and exhilarating place to me. I have also always had a passion for history. When I was younger my brothers would be taken to football matches at the weekends, I would be taken on day trips to the British museum. I am a big fan of museums and books but, even more so, I am interested in the tangible, liveable and breathable history we are surrounded by as we go about our everyday lives.

I went on to study history at the University of Bristol and lived there for seven years. I put that history degree to immediate good use and became a hotel manager for 4 and a half years.
I then launched Living London History as a weekly blog post back in August 2020 as somewhat of a pandemic project. There was not much else to do other than walk around London, so I started voraciously exploring the city and writing about my findings to a few keen subscribers.
I started this blog to share my journey discovering London’s fascinating past, by walking its bustling grand streets, diving down its mysterious alleyways and strolling along the banks of the Thames. I believe that the city itself is the greatest and most interesting museum of all.

In 2021 I took part in Open City’s Golden Key Academy guiding course and in October 2021 started running my guided walks of London’s hidden history. My walks focus on one area of London at a time, with the aim to uncover its stories, point out the little details many miss, really get under the city’s skin and ultimately share my passion for the city’s history.
Thankfully I have built it up from those few early subscribers and in June 2022 took the plunge, quit the day job and took Living London History full time. I have not looked back since.
In April 2023 I published my first book called London: A Guide For Curious Wanderers. It is my guide to London’s quirks, oddities and often overlooked details. It is beautifully illustrated and contains self-guided walking maps to discover the city for yourself. Find out more here.
In April 2025 my second book London: The Hidden Corners for Curious Wanderers will be released! It is all about the more secret and secluded spots in the city, secret, tranquil gardens, atmospheric alleyways and hidden pubs are all covered. It is available to pre-order now, click here if you would like to be among the first to receive a copy.

You can also download for just £5 a Google map of all the locations I highlight on my blog and Instagram page. Click the image below to find out more.
